RUP Research & Publications

ARCHIVING RUP/RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS: We have gathered and archived more than 50 years of history

Over the years there have been a number of oral histories recorded on La Raza Unida Party and those who were associated with it in various capacities. Below is a working list of some of those oral histories.

At the 40th year LRUP reunion in Austin, Texas, Dr. Emilio Zamora oversaw the collection of 32 oral histories of people who attended the 40th year reunion. These oral histories have not been transcribed and are currently at the Benson Library at The University of Texas at Austin.
  • Benson Latin American Collection, University of Texas, Austin -Raza Unida Party Papers, and individual collections
  • Texas Handbook Online (RUP history and some individual biographies)
  • Chicana Por Mi Raza Digital Memory Project. http://chicanapormiraza.org/historias (Website by Maria E. Cotera and Linda Garcia Merchant, RUP legacy daughters with extensive interviews and digital archives of RUP women. Archive focus is on Chicana/Latina feminism, 1960s to 1980s)
  • Public libraries in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth and El Paso will have archives on local Raza Unida Party history
  • Major university libraries in southwestern and midwestern states may also be good sources of Raza Unida Party archives and oral histories.
  • Dr. José Angel Gutierrez, while a professor at the University of Texas at Arlington, conducted a project called Tejano Voices. He interviewed more than 173 Tejanos and Tejanas. The audio and transcript of these interviews can be found at: https://library.uta.edu/tejanovoices/
